Shubhra Ramineni is an Indian American raised in the United States on traditional Indian food. With a mother who is a dietitian with a master's degree in nutrition, Shubhra grew up with Indian food and nutrition as a constant presence in her life. She currently teaches Indian cooking classes at Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, and Whole Food Market stores in Houston and Los Angeles, and contributes to Greenista.com, a blog for fashionistas with a green conscience. Shubhra is the author of Entice With Spice.

Another Home Run Cookbook from Shubhra!

This book is a must for lovers of vegetables and Indian cuisine - and if you love both, even better! The recipes are easy to follow and just delicious. I have a CSA and am always looking for ideas to use my produce, so this will be my first cookbook to check. It also has a great section on lentils and legumes with easy and flavor packed recipes. The first recipe I made was the chickpea curry - awesome! Another favorite recipe is the the sweet potatoes with lime juice and seasonings. If you are looking for a go-to vegetarian cookbook that doesn't rely on a lot of dairy, this is it.

My boys like my cooking!

I recently attended Shubhra's cooking class and learned how to make strawberry lassi, vegetable biryani, and sweet & spicy butternut squash. The results were mouthwatering, and made me buy her new cookbook, "hurry home" and make the vegetable biryani for dinner, which was devoured by the next day! Shubhra lovingly (with stories from her childhood) explains the recipes in her book, and each recipe comes with a heartwarming anecdote.
She also made hot and crispy maki ki roti (indian cornbread) for all the classes at my boys' school. My boys came home saying nothing else but "make maki ki roti"! :)
You will love cooking with this book, and the aromas that await you!

Best Indian cookbook you can find!

I grew up eating North Indian food but never learned how to make it. So after leaving home and my mother’s cooking, I’ve been craving healthy and traditional North Indian food. For the past couple of years, I searched for Indian cookbooks but all the books I found had such complicated recipes with so many ingredients. It got to a point where I started dreading cooking. Until a couple months ago, I came across Shubhra’s cooking classes at Central Market in Houston. At first I was hesitant because so many cookbook authors claim there recipes are simple and healthy, which I find not true. But after taking Shubhra’s cooking class, I was so impressed. We made traditional North Indian recipes, that required such simple spices that most of us have sitting in our cupboards…cumin seeds, salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper and turmeric. And that’s it! Everything we made in the class only required these five spices. At first I was hesitant because the recipes seemed too simple. But after tasting the dishes we made, the food was the same traditional North Indian food that I grew up with. The taste of the food brought back so many memories of what I grew up eating. And best of all….the recipes are super healthy and quick to make! So I ended buying both of her cookbooks right then and there. Her cookbooks are organized so well. The beginning is full of tips and techniques to get you started with cooking Indian food. It is the perfect intro for someone who doesn’t have much experience cooking Indian dishes. And best of all, almost every recipe is accompanied by a picture. The books are so colorful and vibrant and full of so many different recipes. For the first time, I can now cook traditional North Indian food and enjoy it rather than dread the thought of cooking. No more standing in front of the stove for an hour and a half and searching grocery stores for a ton of exotic ingredients. These recipes are simple, healthy and most only require minutes in front of the stove! I’ve even made a few dishes for a potluck with some friends who are from North India. The dishes were a total hit and everyone was asking for the recipes. So for the first time ever, I’m having such a good time cooking because the recipes are so easy yet traditional tasting! Shubhra’s cooking technique has turned my experience in the kitchen from dreadful to excited! Thank you Shubhra for sharing your recipes in your books! I’m looking forward to more classes and more books in the future!
