About the Author
Born Natsume Kinnosuke, Soseki was brought up in a middle-class family at the beginning of the Meiji period. After an extensive education in English, Chinese, and Japanese literature, Soseki taught English at the University of Tokyo. In 1907, he gave up teaching to devote himself to writing and produced a number of books, including Botchan, The Three-Cornered World, and Mon. He died in Tokyo in 1916.

Reading this book I feel like the translator did a decent job at getting the words into English but some meaning and word play just did not translate well. It was a slow read but many references not clicking initially. That being said there are some thoughtful discussions that were brought up as a result of reading this book so it may be your cup of tea if you've been looking for topics to debate with friends.

Wonderfully amusing novel. A biting satire that is still relevant for OUR society today. And the cat is a great character! This book isn't so much about plot! If you are looking for a page turner this is NOT your book. If you are looking for wit, satire, and a charming cat! Yes this book wins!
