The perfect book for people who love music

The perfect book for people who love music, poetry, art, and nostalgia presented in a unique way. The original was a gift to the Victorian-Era musician William Mason toward the end of his life from friends associated with the Isles of Shoals arts' colony. Mason was Liszt's only American student and introduced America audiences to the works of Chopin and Schumann at a time when serious American music was first getting its identity, mostly borrowed from Europe. (He was the son of Lowell Mason, hymn composer and educator.) Many of those Europeans are in this daybook. Theodore Thomas, Wilhelm Gericke, etc. The author has taken the most notable entries and added supplementary photos and text to present in one year using the daybook format an intimate feel for this important time in American culture. It makes for such a delightful informal tour of these friends who were also some of our most important artist and musicians: Childe Hassam, Edward MacDowell, Helen Keller, and many more. Charming, informative, and poignant.
