About the Author
Andrew Dewar was born in Toronto, Ontario, and graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute (B.A. Journalism) and University of Toronto (M.A. Japanese Studies, Library and Information Science) before moving to Japan in 1988. After completing his doctoral studies in library science at Keio University, he joined the faculty of a junior college in Japan. Soon after arriving in Japan he rediscovered his childhood love of designing and flying paper airplanes. His passion for paper airplanes led him to become president of the Fukushima Paper Airplane Club. Dewar has published over 30 paper crafting books and kits. He also teaches paper airplane workshops and does seminars at schools, libraries, community centers and museums. He lived and taught library science in Fukushima, Japan, until the giant earthquake and nuclear accident in March 2011, when the city became unsafe. After a brief stay in Canada, he's returned with his family to Gifu, Japan.

If you want to play better (and have more fun) it's perfect!

The author's first book helped me a lot, back when I was first learning the ins and outs of the game. Now I can play without getting confused QUITE so often as I used to (!), but sometimes I still get super frustrated with figuring out (or maybe it's with staying confident about) building my hands. This "Strategy" guide is giving me all I hoped for, and actually more: because there's an appendix with fun historical info and images which I really like too!

Other players may have different needs, but I can attest that this book really is helping me "get it"--my skills seem to be sinking in somehow, so that I'm playing stronger. I love the change and my (more experienced) fellow players are pretty impressed already.

The reviewer Johana seemed confused about the years of the Cards that the book references; I wonder if maybe it's a language barrier she's dealing with? The book is very clear on that aspect, I thought--it includes all the examples and info you need to learn everything it teaches. Actually, I find that all the examples the author gives to help you, make it really practical. High marks!

This Book is Great!

I found this book to be really useful for improving my game. This is the first book I've ever seen that teaches you about how to strategize to get the best hand. I found it very easy to read and understand, and the examples really help. The chapter about applying the strategies in a real game was extremely helpful too! I also learned a lot about the history of American Mah Jongg and really enjoyed the photos.

I highly recommend this book for players who know the rules but need some guidance is strategizing to win.

Most people agree that the hardest part of playing American Mah Jongg is deciding which hand to play. This book shows you how to arrive to an educated guess and takes some of the stress out of your decision. It tells you how to divide your tiles in different combinations to choose your best hand. The more you use their ideas the easier it becomes to make a choice.

Simple and easy to understand diagrams make this the perfect origami beginner's book. The addition of an abundance of origami squares in a range of different colors plus a load of two different patterned squares sets an origami novice up for folding for quite a while. I highly recommend this book to the new origami folder.

My grandson Garrett asked for an origami kit for Christmas. As a grammy it is my job to make sure his every wish comes true! I researched to find the best kit I could find for a nine year old boy. This kit was highly recommended and it was a big hit. Now there are little folded up pieces of colored paper everywhere! Everywhere! Everywhere!

Excellent quiet time activity

This is a great value getting a good origami book (the instructions are good and the book itself is not flimsy) and a lot of paper to get started with. Enjoyed by all ages. Even used this with children with difficulty sitting down and attending to task (ADHD) and it's fun and they surprised me being able to sit still. Great for rainy day or keeping busy when you need to have quiet time.

About the Author
Michael G. LaFosse has been an origami artist for over 40 years, and is considered a leading authority and master of the art. An avid teacher, LaFosse co-founded the Origamido Studio, a learning center and design studio dedicated to the art of origami, and the only place in the world specializing in hand papermaking for the origami artist. Author of many books and videotapes relating to paperfolding and hand papermaking, LaFosse produces fine paper art and commercial designs for a variety of international clients.

Richard L. Alexander co-founded the Origamido Studio, a teaching center, gallery and design studio, with Michael G. LaFosse in 1996. As a designer, his specialties have included biology (systems ecology) and landscape architecture. Less than meets the eye!

Nice presentation in approx 7" square box that's about 1" high. Don't be fooled thinking it's full of paper! False bottom in box hold up the 4 packs of 3-1/2" square single-sided origami paper. Good quality origami paper, folding instructions fairly easy to follow.

No better reference work available on the subject.

Outstanding demonstration and explanation of this highly popular style of karate which,moreso than most places great emphasis on foot technique.The text is easy to understand and its' thoroughness of detail and display of skill in technique make it second only to Jordan Roth's masterwork Black Belt Karate.It must be said that this book would probably not serve a novice student too well as there are some moves which could prove difficult to master,like the front and side-limbering kicks and the flying roundhouse kick.This book should perhaps be best viewed as a companion piece to Roth's as there are several techniques not covered in that book,such as the hook kick and the rising heel kick.Great emphasis is placed on sparring so I would say that it is absolutely essential to work with a partner when referring to this book.As one who enjoys the kicking techniques of karate this book definitely comes highly recommended.Class cover shot of a perfectly executed side thrust kick enhances this book's already considerable appeal and usefulness.

This is the best book on Traditional TKD, or Katate I have ever seen. Keep in mind, this is not Olympic style TKD of the 21st century, this is good old solid Ji Do Kwan, Tae Kwon Do. Master Cho covers things in this book that show TKD to be the "art" it is. Anyone can do the things in this book. It just takes time, and practice.
This book also shows that TKD does indeed have good, solid hand techniques, and defenses.
This book is NOT magic, and do not exspect any "tricks" to make you a master overnight. Master Cho has given a lot of information, and it works. All you need to do is practice!

this book is the ultamate book on free fighting and actual combat situation, it covers all grounds on the primary techniques needed to do either and it is very well compiled and written and done in an easy to understand way , you cant get better information on this subject anywhere

Wow! Learn Adjectives AND more!

I was a little put off by the last reviewer's comments about the book and one star rating but took the chance anyway... and found this to be an excellent book despite it being a book full of 'fill in the blanks'!
The Complete Adjective Guide is over 200 pages of exercises that slowly get you into adjectives, nouns, sentence structure and adjective conjugation. I never knew how complex and helpful Japanese adjectives are for sentence structure and information conveyance. As you learn about the adjectives, they take you into verb/adjective conjugation and you slowly learn how to conjugate verbs as well! Brilliant.
This isn't a book for the absolute beginner; it is best to have some Japanese vocab under your belt at this point, and a very basic understanding of Japanese sentence structures. Despite that, this book does provide two indexes in the back with Japanese words used and the English translation, and English words with the Japanese provided.
I highly recommend this book for the 'just past' beginner student.

Adjectives Simplified

Most books on the language, when discussing adjectives mix and match the "i" adjectives and the "na" adjectives, this book however keeps them seperate, and therefore helps your grasp of their usage expand quicker than other "sections" devoted to Japanese Adjectives contained in Japanese Language books.

Amazing learning tool! Subarashii hon desu yo!

Master Japanese adjectives on your own! Through this workbook, you can learn about Japanese adjectives, practice what you have learned and then check yourself. The workbook progresses in a logical way and is always easy to follow. If you are a student of Japanese working on adjectives or just looking for a good way to practice, this book is for you!

If you are looking for a adjective guide other than a workbook, may I suggest a dictionary!
